FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

REIKI FAQ

How does Reiki work?

Reiki is a type of energy healing. In this practice, a person called a Reiki practitioner helps move energy around the body. The energy they work with is called “universal life force energy.” The practitioner usually places their hands on or near the person receiving the healing.

Do you talk during a Reiki session?

The practitioner typically does not talk during the treatment. The individual is free to communicate openly, as the client may experience sensations in the body such as heat, gentle pulsing, or tingling.

Can a Reiki master "take" your energy?

Consequently, you gain, or regain, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual balance. This may take one treatment or a series of treatments.

Reiki practitioners don’t absorb your energy. Nor do you absorb their energy, any more so than if you were exchanging long periods of touch with another human.

Is Reiki a religion or spiritual practice?

Reiki is spiritual by nature, but it does not belong to any particular religion. You can think of it as a connection between the physical world and the spiritual one. It helps people use the universal life force energy. This energy flows through all living things.

How is Reiki different from other energy healing modalities?

Massage manipulates the tissue.

Therapy delves into the mind.

Other practices in medicine focus on specific ailments and symptoms.

Reiki, however, is energy based, non-invasive, and is like a spiritual serenade, embracing the whole – mind, body, and spirit – like a cosmic hug of self-healing and personal growth wrapped up into one.

Is distance Reiki as effective as in-person Reiki?

There are benefits to both:

In-person Reiki offers the tactile connection of the comfort in touch. In-person vibes and environmental elements can offer tranquility.

In Distance Reiki, you can experience the quantum magic of energy transcending miles, it is convenient in that there is no travel and location is on your terms.

Essentially the benefits are the same. In-person simply offers the sense of touch.

Can Reiki help with emotional or mental health issues?

Reiki reduces stress and anxiety. It eases depression and improves mood. It also has a positive effect on injury and chronic pain, which also ties into mood and stress.

In essence, Reiki creates a sense of emotional freedom.

7. Can anyone learn Reiki?

Absolutely.

The universe does not play favorites when it comes to Reiki.

Although a Master, I currently do not conduct classes or even personal placements (attunements) as I have not felt drawn to do so as of yet.

Once and if that time arrives, my site will be updated. My clients will likely know beforehand!

Contact me, and I will refer you to my sensei. But beware: her hospitality, loving-kindness to all, knowledge, & experience will be life changing.

How many Reiki sessions are typically needed to see results?

Beginning to experience Reiki is different in everyone. Some are sensitive and when paired with the right practitioner, they may be blown away immediately. Others may require 3 or 4 sessions to begin noticing change.

Are there any scientific studies supporting the effectiveness of Reiki?

Absolutely! See our Research page

Can Reiki be used in conjunction with traditional medical treatments?

Reiki is not a rebel, elbowing traditional medicine out of the way.

In fact, Reiki acts as a harmonizer and complements traditional medicine like a sidekick.

Are there any side effects of Reiki?

Caution: It’s often reported that Reiki may and often causes relaxation, stress relief, a tendency to nap (even during session), pain relief, a sudden urge for personal growth, and unexpected moments of clarity & insight.

What qualifications should I look for in a Reiki practitioner?

Since you opened the FAQ, I anticipate that you are soliciting my opinion.

Some will say certifications don’t matter and that large group atunements (ahem, placements) are the acceptable rage and that they are no different than intimate teachings and placements.

The Master of the Master is largely responsible for the heart and soul of one’s practice.

The more experienced the mentor, the more knowledge, skill, passion, and fluency is infused into the student practitioner in their ongoing relationship.

Upon one’s journey in practice, they should remain  your sensei for guidance whenever you call upon them.

When exploring your options, ask a practitioner about their Master, their relationship,  and how their own experience(s) were.

Then, be guided by your own intuition.

Is Reiki safe for pregnant women or children?

Yes, and Yes! During any phase of pregnancy Reiki brings comfort and harmony to the mother and her growing little peanut.

Reiki helps calm children, bring emotional balance, and even recharges their batteries for adventures with Elves and Hobbits.

Can Reiki help with chronic pain or illnesses?

Reiki is used to address different types of pain, including chronic pain.

Clinicians educated about Reiki will recommend it for lack of side effects, and its affect on facilitating  relaxation to assist in the battle of pain management.

An enhanced state of  well-being aids both recovery and the process of healing.

When it comes to illness(es) Reiki is considered a  complimentary therapy utilized alongside conventional medicine. Most notably for

  1. Cancer
  2. Infertiity
  3. Anxiety & Depression
  4. Parkinsons
  5. Digestive Issues
  6. Stress reated illness(s)

Remember that individual experiences vary, and Reiki’s effectiveness depends on factors like the practitioner’s skill and the recipient’s openness to energy healing.

If you’re considering Reiki, consult with a qualified practitioner and discuss how it might fit into your overall health management plan
